phs-lifeguards-2015The lifeguard training class at Portage High School recently began at the start of the second semester. The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services personnel take over.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive an American Red Cross certificate for Lifeguarding/ First Aid/CPR/AED, valid for 2 years. Being a lifeguard is an exciting and rewarding summer job that is constantly in demand.

We are blessed to have a tremendous group of students, eager and willing to put in the hard work to become a lifeguard.
