william-c-moyersBeyond Broken: My Story of Addiction & Redemption
with William C. Moyers
Vice President of Public Affairs & Community Relations, Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation

Keynote Breakfast 8:00 am - 10:00 am

From the depths of an Atlanta crack house to the ranks of leadership at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, William C. Moyers shares his personal story of addiction and journey to recovery.

The privileged son of journalist Bill Moyers, William's teenage drug use gradually evolved into an adulthood addiction to alcohol and crack cocaine. His final binge at age 35 became the turning-point in his recovery.

Now clean and sober for two decades, William's honest and inspiring account is a reminder that there is more to recovery than abstinence, that hitting bottom isn't just about alcohol or other drugs, and that some of life's most valuable lessons materialize along the road traveled.

margaret-wehrenbergAnxiety: Use Your Brain to Change Your Brain
with Margaret Wehrenberg, Psy. D.
Expert in the Treatment of Anxiety & Depression

Full Day Workshop: 10:30 am - 5:00 pm

Anxiety disorders are among the most common and pervasive mental disorders experienced by Americans. Licensed Clinical Psychologist Margaret Wehrenberg, Psy.D. addresses the physical, emotional, and behavioral symptoms of anxiety, from everyday worry and stress to panic, generalized anxiety and social anxiety. Stress and anxiety can be more physically and emotionally challenging for those with trauma in their history or individuals in recovery from addiction. Additionally, stress and anxiety can be relapse triggers in any addiction. Drawing on basic brain science, Dr. Wehrenberg explains how and why your brain causes anxiety, how to identify triggers, and shares the top ten techniques for managing anxiety. Using a practical mind-body focus, these methods apply to all age groups and populations.
