Portage High School Cheerleaders are Collecting Items for the Portage Township Food Pantry

PHS-Cheerleaders-1The Portage High School Cheerleaders would like your support this year in helping them collect non-perishable food and hygiene-related items for the Portage Township Food Pantry.

The items will be collected during every home Varsity football game this year, and it starts with the Indians’ first home game this Friday (8/28) against Lowell.

The idea of the collection came from Head Varsity Cheer Coach, Laura Gaffney, and Assistant Coach, Jen Willis, who wanted to put the popularity of the football games to good work.

"Portage is a football town, and the people of Portage are giving people," Gaffney said. "Put the two together and great things can happen."

Gaffney said she is excited about the possibilities of a great school and a great community working together for good.

"Just imagine how mouch could be collected if every person attending the football game would bring just one item for the pantry," added Gaffney. "Now imagine two items, or even three. What an impact this could make if we all just do a little something."

If you can't make it to Friday's game, check out the schedule for the other home games and opportunities to donate this year: 9/18 Crown Point, 9/25 Chesterton, and 10/9 Valparaiso

Come out and support the Indians and do some good for the local community in the process.
