Through the first nine weeks of the school year, the Portage High School student-produced newspaper the Pow Wow has published three issues of the eight page, comprehensive look at news relevant to Portage High School students.
Issue 1: Sept. 14, 2012
The first issue of the Pow Wow includes news stories about the change in graduation time, former Portage Township Schools Superintendent Mike Berta coming out of retirement and new policies implemented for the 2012-2013 school year. The features section includes a profile of some of the new teachers at Portage High School, while the sports section introduces readers to new PHS assistant Athletic Director Todd Strom.
Issue 2: Sept. 28, 2012
This second issue of this year’s Pow Wow newspaper celebrated the A ranking that Portage High School received from the state of Indiana. It also explained the new teacher evaluation system, provided a full Homecoming preview and updated the state of the volleyball program.
Issue 3: Oct. 12, 2012
Issue 3 of the Pow Wow provided readers with insight as to what hobbies Portage High School teachers partake in away from the classroom. It also reviewed the Portage boys tennis season and profiled the Portage High School athletic trainers.
