Aylesworth 5th Grade
Fifth grade students were learning about the coordinate system. They learned about plotting points on a coordinate plane using the x and y axis. They worked extremely hard during this unit!

The students were assigned to create their own city. They had to name their city, create buildings, label the points, and add recreational features such as parks, fountains, parking lots, lakes, and trees. Also, the students created a rough draft drawing out their city with the requirements needed for the project. In the end, they published their final product on a poster. Some students were very imaginative and used their creativity to create something special and unique!

Myers Elementary
“Checkmate” is a word that’s easy to say yet difficult to achieve. Yet, for the 25 fourth and fifth graders from Myers Elementary, this was the ultimate goal back on December 5 when they faced off in a single-elimination tournament. The tournament was the first of two such events taking place this year as a function of the Myers chess club known as Chess to Impress.

The top three finishers were: Tyler Tuesburg (3rd), Matthew Arnold (2nd), & Nolan White (1st).

Chess to Impress has been in existence since the 2015-2016 school year when the club began as a byproduct of a unit in which fifth-graders learned about the historical class system known as Feudalism. This year’s group is comprised of approximately 45 fourth & fifth-graders, as well as 5 returning sixth-graders who serve as peer coaches. The club meets every Monday after school to learn the ins and outs of chess, as well as proper chess etiquette.

PHS AP History Class
Mrs. Bishop's AP Art History class and Mrs. Rice's Painting class went on a field trip to the University of Chicago Oriental Museum and went on an architecture walk around the campus! The kids loved it and got to learn about ancient artifacts that they had examined in their books prior to the trip.
