Speech Team
The PHS Speech Team won 4th Place at the Indiana High School Forensic Association’s Sectional Speech Tournament this past Saturday at Valparaiso High School. INN’s Amber Nelson finished 4th in Broadcasting and Sophomore, Sydney Utterback, finished 5th in Original Performance. These young ladies will be representing the Speech Team March 12th, at the State Tournament in Fishers.
Principles of Engineering Class
After students in the PLTW Principles of Engineering class at Portage High School studied the mechanics of trusses, they constructed balsa wood bridges. The bridges were made only of balsa wood and glue and could not have a mass greater than 40 grams. They were then put to the test by hanging weights from the bridges until they broke. These lightweight sturdy bridges held up to 95 pounds of weight!
