Lt. Governor Visits Porter County Career and Technical Center in 2015

Lt-Governor-at-PCCTC-01Lt Governor Sue Ellspermann stopped in to visit students at the Porter County Career and Tech Center on May 7. The Lt Governor toured our facility and spoke to students in several classes. She shared that she attended Purdue University and that she has an engineering degree. She also told students that they had made a good choice in studying a Career and Technical Education (CTE) course while still in high school and stated that she and the Governor were very supportive of CTE programs. She is pictured talking with Abbey Thomas and Ben Nielsen (both of Valpo HS) about their career plans.

The second picture shows the Lt Governor on the roof of the Career and Tech Center with Principal Jon Groth. She was inspecting our alternative energy demonstration project which includes 3 wind generators, over 40 photovoltaic solar panels, and one robotic solar tracker. In the background is the old Grand Trunk railway depot which is being re-purposed into a new learning laboratory. Faculty and students enjoyed meeting one of the highest elected officials of Indiana.

Before leaving the Lt Governor also signed a “No Texting While Driving” pledge which is a commitment by our students to drive safely and to avoid distracted driving.
