Community Healthcare System Welcomes New Operations Director of Occupational Health

COHMS-Mark-SavageCommunity Healthcare System’s Occupational Health department recently welcomed Mark Savage as its new Operations Director. A seasoned professional in the area of workforce health and safety, Savage will be responsible for management of the system’s Occupational Health operations in both Lake and Porter Counties.

“We are thrilled to have Mark’s considerable knowledge and expertise as part of our growing occupational medicine program,” said John Doherty, MS, PT, ATC, vice president of Therapy Services, Sports Medicine and Occupational Health. “Workforce health and safety has an even greater impact on a company’s bottom line than ever before. Mark understands those needs and will put Community Healthcare System’s Occupational Health services to work for them in a way that is cost-effective, convenient and with the highest quality.”

Savage will be supervising a service line that includes clinics in East Chicago, Hobart, Munster, and Portage as well as onsite services at the BP Refinery in Whiting and US Steel in Gary.

Beginning his career as an exercise physiologist in corporate wellness and cardiac rehabilitation, Savage moved into occupational health almost 20 years ago. Since then, Savage built a distinguished career, working for several occupational health providers throughout Northwest Indiana. He was also active in several community non-profits, including the United Way of LaPorte County, where he received the Burton B. Ruby Award in 2012 as the most outstanding Loaned Executive of the year.

Savage received his Master’s Degree in Exercise Science from the University of Nebraska - Omaha in 1982 and his MBA from Western Governor’s University in 2016.
