When news broke in the first quarter of 2017 that Strack & Van Til would be sold by their parent company Central Grocers to Jewel-Osco, many Northwest Indiana residents saw it as another "the big guy wins again" story. However, thanks to a group of locally-focused investors, Strack & Van Til will stay in the hands of Northwest Indiana ownership after winning the auction bid on July 11, 2017. The news was first reported on WJOB.
Last month, Jewel-Osco even secured a $100 million bid for the local grocer, but the new group found some light in their most recent proposal.
