Overwhelming support poured in for Cappo's Casual Dining Charity Golf Outing at the Brassie Golf Course in Chesterton this past Monday, August 9, 2010. Many people from Portage and the surrounding area came with a big smile, a leap in their step and a heavy bag of golf clubs to support Northshore Health Centers. And if you didn't know, Cappo's Casual Dining, the sponsor for the event, is a great place for lunch and dinner Monday through Saturday serving the best in pizza, fried chicken and barbecue ribs. On a perfect, clear evening at Indiana Dunes State Park, the Chesterton/Duneland Chamber of Commerce(http://www.dunelandchamber.com/) hosted the 2nd Annual Fireworks on the Lakeshore on Friday, July 1st, 2010. So many people thought that this was a good idea that there was nearly a half mile long line of traffic outside the park an hour and a half before the fireworks! Nonetheless, it was a great, fun evening for all of Northwest Indiana.
"Many individuals and businesses were recognized on November 13, 2010 at the Portage Chamber Fall Dinner and Recognition Ceremony for their contributions to Portage in the way of community and business. The Greater Portage Chamber of Commerce hosted the evening at Woodland Park where many guests enjoyed the evening with a silent auction and live entertainment. Watch the video to find out more!
Portage community members gathered at Trumble Field for some food, fun, and fireworks. Â Chicago-based blues rock band, Â Blue Plate Special was there for some musical entertainment and local vendors brought out their best merchandise for this fun, action packed, and most patriotic day of the year!
The Portage Senior Health Fair was held Thursday, May 6, 2010 at Woodland Park. Over 90 vendors ranging from massage therapists to neurosurgeons were in attendance to this year's fair all in an effort to encourage healthy choices for today's seniors. A healthy lunch was even provided to attendants as well as entertainment from keyboardist, Keenan Baxter.
On July 9, 2009 the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County held its annual fundraising golf outing at Forest Park in Valparaiso. The golf outing is the Boys & Girls Clubs' biggest fundraiser each year.
Porter health system introduced the DaVinci robotic surgery program in July of 2008 and it has become one of the fastest growing programs in Indiana. In less than a year, Porter now has seven physicians who have undergone detailed, advanced level training, and more than 100 robotic urological and gynecological procedures have been performed at the hospital.
