John Rhame Discusses Issues Facing Parents Regarding 'Child Custody'.
Eighth grade Fegely Middle School students participated in a mock program in how to manage finances while making different choices in life as a 28 year-old. The goal of the program is to get students thinking about what choices they're going to make once they're on their own. Chair of the event, Susan Kelly-Johnson, also explains that 'it also gives them a sense of appreciation for their parents.'
The Portage Chamber of Commerce had a meeting March 18, 2010 in which Lori Sloan, Marketing Director for the Gary-Chicago International Airport, was invited to speak. She spoke about what kind of airline activity the airport has been generating, the board of directors that make decisions about the airport, as well as the importance of investing in the airport from the standpoint of the larger Northwest Indiana area.
Many businesses and organizations attended the Portage Chamber of Commerce Business Opportunity Night that happened Thursday, April 22. It was a great night to see what the community of Portage has to offer!

"Steindler Signs gave us a chance to look into one of their recent projects, which was creating and installing welcome signs for the Town of Hebron. This project was a very unique project in the fact that the entire sign besides a few aluminum pieces was constructed out of foam. Watch this video to see how they did it!

On Tuesday, June 22, 2010, Porter-Starke Services held a ribbon cutting event in partnership with the Portage Chamber of Commerce in celebration of their new Portage facility. President and CEO of Porter-Starke Services, Rocco Schiralli, said, "I think the opening of this building symbolizes many things. One thing is our commitment to the community of Portage." Porter-Starke will be able to expand many of their services because of the new facility and increase their ability to take in new clients.
Thirty-five years later and numerous families and individuals who have been helped through their services, Porter-Starke Services celebrates its 35th anniversary at Movies in the Park on Tuesday, July 14, 2010. Oddly enough, the same year Porter-Starke opened was when the first ever summer "blockbuster" movie, Jaws, showed all over movie theatres in America. So the Spielberg classic was shown to a couple hundred Valpo residents who relaxed amidst a beautiful evening sunset.
