Indiana University Northwest’s One Book…One Campus…One Community reading initiative is partnering with the IU Northwest School of Public and Environmental Affairs and the Indiana University Police Department- Northwest to explore the rewards and challenges for women in law enforcement.

The Women in Law Enforcement panel discussion is scheduled for 1:30 to 3 p.m., Monday, April 22 in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium, located in the Savannah Center. The event is free and open to the public. Campus parking restrictions will be suspended during the event.

Moderated by Jackie Huey, a lecturer in the School of Public and Environment Affairs, the panel consists of:

  • Kim Cox, Deputy Warden, Lake County Sheriff’s Office
  • Jill Lees, Chief, IU Police Department – Bloomington
  • Caylin O’Hara, Officer, IU Police Department – Northwest
  • Shannon Trump, Deputy Chief, Noblesville Police Department
  • Dawn Westerfield, Public Information Officer, Police Department - City of Gary
  • Ida Williams, Lieutenant, Indianapolis Police Department

A question and answer session, as well as a reception, will follow the panel discussion.

The chosen book for the 2018-19 academic year, Women and Power: A Manifesto, by Mary Beard, traces the origins of misogyny, examines the pitfalls of gender, and explores cultural assumptions about women and leadership roles.
