Any college student who returns home for the summer knows the struggle that ensues when trying to find summer work. For Dave Juhl, he has the benefit of returning each summer to Industrial Revolution Eatery & Grille, ending what is often a difficult search for students.
As someone who has worked at Industrial Revolution for almost two years, the flexibility they provide in being able to return during breaks is invaluable to Juhl. Returning to work is as easy as sending a message to General Manager, Ronnie Sazone.
“It’s great, I don’t have to find anything when I come back. I text Ronnie what date I’ll be back and that’s that,” Juhl said. “The first date I said I was back this summer Ronnie scheduled me and it was good. It’s good to have a place to come back to.”
Juhl finds reward in being a busser and host for the restaurant, enjoying the time he uses to help the wait staff and others as needed. The teamwork within the building is a true testament to the theme and ideas the restaurant promotes.
“Everyone here is super cool, friendly, and you get along with everyone. No one fights,” Juhl said. “It’s all about saluting America’s greatness. It’s about having fun but having good food and good service.”
In addition to working in a great place, Juhl loves the ability to stay busy throughout his shift. As someone willing to climb on a ladder to fix the restaurant’s train that travels around the building or jump in and help wait staff clearing tables, he doesn’t like to stand still.
“I don’t like to just stand around. I’m always busy,” Juhl said. “This isn’t the first time I’ve helped with the train, but it adds to the atmosphere for kids and adults. You’d be surprised at how many adults ask about the train.”
Rounding out Juhl’s positive experience with the restaurant is the fact that management is more than willing to listen to suggestions to improve the restaurant. With the owners so easily accessible to the staff, Juhl and his coworkers feel comfortable approaching them with ideas and suggestions.
“Whenever we want something done, we don’t need to go through a bunch of people to get it done. We just say something to Ronnie, Jen, or Andy and typically it gets done,” Juhl said. “They’re super open to suggestions.”
Industrial Revolution has certainly been a positive opportunity for Juhl. Working through the summer, he’ll return to IUPUI in the fall to continue his degree in accounting and finance.
