For those needing guidance for end-of-life care and decisions, Center for Hospice Care (CHC) is a wonderful community resource. With more than 38 years of experience serving patients and their families, CHC offers an incomparable level of care, expertise, and compassion.
While the organization’s credentials speak for themselves, we wanted to take a moment to place a special emphasis on CHC’s commitment to the community.
As the largest not-for-profit hospice provider in Indiana - ranking in the top 3% of all U.S. hospice programs based on the number of patients served - CHC maintains its standard of compassion. In addition, CHC provides more than end-of-life care – they also offer bereavement services and educational programs to the community.
“One of the primary ways we give back to our community is that we never turn anyone away who is eligible for our services, regardless of their ability to pay,” said Peter Ashley, Director of Communications and Annual Giving for the Hospice Foundation. “In the last four years alone, CHC provided nearly $8 million in community bereavement services and unreimbursed and discounted patient care.”
Even when CHC employees and volunteers aren’t directly caring for patients, they’re enriching the community in other ways. The organization engages with numerous other nonprofits on many levels - through educational partnerships, event sponsorships and other collaborations.
Each October, CHC holds a Veterans Tribute Ceremony on its Mishawaka campus. In September, the Hospice Foundation hosted the 10th Annual Bike Michiana for Hospice and 33rd Annual Walk for Hospice event. In addition, CHC just celebrated its 10-year partnership with the Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU), a representation of partnership that extends well beyond our community.
