Calumet College of St. Joseph is a proud participant in this year’s One Earth Film Festival. Now in its seventh year, it is the Midwest’s premier environmental film festival and CCSJ is the only venue in Indiana. Shifting Sands: On the Path to Sustainability tells the story of how the Calumet Region, where rare plants grow in the shadows of smokestacks, sparked a movement for a national park: a movement which eventually led to game-changing environmental policies with world-wide impact.

The pre-festival screening will be on Thursday, Feb. 15th at 7:00 pm at the College (2400 New York Avenue, Whiting, IN) and will be followed by post film discussion. Members of the panel will be Dr. Kenneth Schoon, author of Shifting Sands: the Restoration of the Calumet Area; Ms. Pat Wisniewski, the film’s producer/director; and Mr. Michael Puente, Northwest Reporter for WBEZ. The event is free but seating is limited and reservations are strongly suggested. Visit oneearthfilmfest.org to reserve tickets.

The One Earth Film Festival runs March 2-11, 2018 and the theme this year is “This is the Moment.” As we see the effects of climate change on our planet, this is the moment to learn…find our voice…collaborate…and take action. This year’s festival offers people of all ages and backgrounds opportunities to do all of these things. There are more than 30 films at more than 50 screenings throughout Chicago, as well as in Cook, DuPage, Lake and Kane Counties -- and for the first time, Whiting, Indiana. At these events, enjoy beautiful, award-winning documentary films; rich discussions with trained facilitators and expert panelists; and one-on-one access to partners from your community who can connect you to local, meaningful action.
