NWI Lions United Brings Community, Athletics, and a Passion for Soccer to Northwest Indiana Kids at Season Kickoff
Northwest Indiana’s soccer community is vibrant and growing, and nowhere was that more evident than Northwest Indiana Lions United Season Kickoff on Saturday. Kids of all ages gathered on the Hamilton Fields outside Lowell for a day of friendly tournaments, skill games, and camaraderie.
It is time to get ready to BUMP, SET, and SPIKE for Duneland Boys & Girls Club’s 2018 Volleyball League! League registration begins July 23 and is open to all girls and boys from grades 3rd through 8th. The Club’s Volleyball League season will run from September 18 through November 17. All teams will have one practice during the week and an eight game schedule. All games will be played on Saturday at the Club.
Our portage little league juniors team 13-14 year olds won the district title and travel to Greenwood IN to compete for state title. We have a go fund me at https://www.gofundme.com/portage-little-league-all-star039s We are also doing a free car wash on Friday july 20th from 6-8 pm and Saturday and sunday from 9 am until 5 pm. All washes are free and we will accept donations.
NWI Lions United welcomes you to join our Rec Plus Academy Program for the 2018-19 soccer season! Our goal is to develop players to the best of their ability by focusing on skill development, building positive attitudes and growing the love of the game in all our players so they have the passion to play and compete. The Rec Plus Academy Program at NWI Lions United is for players Pre K - 2nd Grade. This program is designed for players of all ability levels from “Beginner – Experienced” who are looking for a positive soccer environment that offers high quality professional training and a clear schedule.
Indiana Elite FC’s 2001 and 2002 boys’ teams will participate in US Club Soccer’s 2018 ENPL Western Playoffs / Boys Western NPL Finals beginning this weekend in San Diego, CA.
Indiana Elite FC President and Director of Coaching Novi Marojevic has much to celebrate. Three of the teams he has been coaching for many years are Indiana State Cup Champions two years in a row. In addition, with its growth and recent successes, the IEFC girls' program is expanding by leaps and bounds, not to mention some recent tournament wins.
Since joining Indiana Elite FC coaching staff three years ago, girls Director of Coaching Semir Mesanovic has seen what he considers “tremendous growth.” What started as two girls teams within the club has now blossomed into five teams with more than 80 young women athletes. The successes of these teams on the field has “Coach Semir” and his teams gaining popularity and being highly sought after, while setting their sights on some tournament cup goals.
School is almost out in the region. It’s that wonderful time of year where you can forget about homework and work as you begin to plan some much needed rest and relaxation. Beaches, theme parks and hotels all see an influx of individuals and families looking to get away from anything that even remotely resembles school or work.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Northwest Indiana’s Flag Football League is a co-ed league held at our Duneland, Portage, South Haven and Valparaiso Clubs. Teams come together on Saturday’s to play other Clubs at Field of Dreams in South Haven. Our leagues focus on developing good sportsmanship and having fun while learning the fundamentals of the game.
The sun rose this Sunday over Hammond’s Wolf Lake Pavilion to a great crowd for the city’s second annual Race to the Rescue - an event that sees competitors compete in a 9K foot race around Hammond’s Wolf Lake, and a 5K race also held along the shores of Wolf Lake, with the main event being a whopping 20-mile bike race throughout Wolf Lake Memorial Park. Each race provided its own challenges for the racers.
