The Objective of Little League Baseball is to implant firmly in the children of the community the ideals of good sportsmanship, honestly, loyalty, courage and respect for authority, so they may be well-adjusted, stronger and happier individuals and will grow to be good, decent, healthy, and trustworthy citizens.
When the cold and darkness comes to those who spend their time outside what do they do? Runners hop on the treadmill, swimmers dive back into the indoor pools, and some, well, they head down to Florida.
If you have not heard of Portage Junior Miss Softball (PJM), we are a non-profit organization providing a safe softball environment for girls ages 4 and older. PJM not only teaches the girls the game of softball, but encourages working together as a team and teaches good sportsmanship.

Or is it the thrill of doing things together for the reward of creating lasting memories? There is not a better answer other than “all of the above” when it comes to creating a family bond. Doing activities together, like the Tour de La Porte (TdL), is rewarding for families. Shawn Arnsbarger is a mother and a six year TdL veteran who enjoys biking the beautiful trails of La Porte with her kids and supporting the runners to be the best they can be.
The Northern Amateur, one of America’s Major Amateur tournaments, tees off on July 20 at Sand Creek Country Club, and with that first strike off the tee so too begins the hopes and dreams of many of the best golfers in the country looking for their own “shot” at living out their dream of being a professional golfer.
Registration for the 7th Annual Indiana State High School Disc Golf Championships at Lemon Lake County Park is officially open. The Championship will take place on Sunday, July 24t at the Lemon Lake County Park and Flight Center. Team and individual competitors, ages 13 to 19, are welcome from across the nation.
Every Sunday night from 5 - 6 p.m., weather permitting, the players of The Challenger League play a game at the Portage Little League fields. The Challenger Division of Little League allow children from age 4 - 18 (22 if the person is still a high school student) with physical, mental and/or developmental challenges to enjoy playing baseball. Each player has a "buddy" to encourage them and assist as necessary" each player gets to bat and play in the infield or outfield; each player gets to score. Each player plays with enthusiasm and to the best of his or her ability. It is amazing to watch these youngsters and their buddies work together.
Summer means it's Junior Golf Time at "The Junior Golf Capital of Indiana!" Our awesome junior program is offered four times each summer and we love seeing all of the youngsters swingin' away and having fun.
The sport of golf is as complex as it is simple.
