PHS Athletics Round-Up 03-05-14

INDIAN HEADBoys Basketball

The boys’ varsity basketball team won their 13th game of the season by beating the Hobart Brickies in the first round of sectionals 64-57. This marks the most wins in a season since the 2000-2001 season.

Luke Kizer led the Indians with 21 points while Michael Lattanzi (16 points) and Jordan Collazo (13) also reached double figures for Portage. David Clegg added seven points and seven rebounds in the win.

Come out and support the Indians as they play Michigan City in the sectional semi-final Friday at 6 p.m. at Valparaiso High School.

Shot Put Top 4 finisher – 1st place Ashley Sosbe, 2nd place Whitney White, 3rd place Victoria Farley, 4th Brianna Coleman.

Diving

Congratulations to John Fannin who placed sixth at state for diving.

Gymnastics

The gymnastics team took 2nd in the DAC meet Saturday, which secures a 2nd place overall finish in the conference. Danielle Solis is the conference champion on vault and beam, and placed 2nd all-around. Madison Kurtz is the conference champion on floor. Contributing to the team score with personal bests were Delaney Barcelli on vault and bars and Krystal Fitchett on floor. Also, congratulations to Danielle and Madison for being chosen all-conference.
