Purdue Calumet Falls at Kalamazoo College, 61-46

PUC-PeregrinsThe Purdue University Calumet men’s basketball team couldn’t find its shooting stroke in a tough night from the field in Wednesday’s 61-46 nonleague loss at Kalamazoo College.

Senior Noah Allen (Flora, Ind./Carroll) led the Peregrines (3-6) with 15 points, adding three boards and two steals, while junior teammate Ryan Rader (Lombard, Ill./Willowbrook) added a double-double with 12 points and 12 boards, adding a team-best four assists.

Purdue Calumet finished just 13 of 51 (25.5 percent) from the field and 9.5 percent (2 of 21) from the 3-point line in the loss, compared to a 47.1 percent (24 of 51) from the field showing by the Hornets (3-1) in their home opener.

Kalamazoo opened the game on a 8-0 run and never trailed, though the Peregrines kept it close throughout the first half, tying the game at 18-all on an Allen 3-pointer with 3:27 left before the break. Kalamazoo’s Keith Garber then answered with a 3-pointer of his own to kickstart a 9-2 run into halftime, where the host led, 27-20.

Junior Dayvohn Braxton (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) opened the second half with a jumper to cut the Hornets’ lead to five, but Kalamazoo would go on a 15-2 run to lead by as many as 19 (42-23), with 11:32 to go. The Hornets kept the lead in double-digits for the rest of the way to seal the victory.

Senior Aaron Davis (Peoria, Ill./Richwoods) added nine points and Kaspars Brencans (Riga, Latvia/Florida Air Academy) had six points and five boards for the Peregrines.

Josh Miller led the Hornets with 13 points and Adam Peters added 12.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Friday when the Peregrines travel to Indiana South Bend for a league contest beginning at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
