Purdue Calumet Turns It Up in Second Half, Tops Cincinnati Christian 4-0

PUC-PeregrinsThe Purdue University Calumet men’s soccer team awoke in the second half to score all four goals in a 4-0 blanking of Cincinnati Christian in a nonconference contest on the road Saturday at Xavier University.

Junior Papa Otoo (Bradenton, Fla./Braden River) broke the scoreless tie in the 52nd minute off a Victor Garcia (Whiting, Ind./Clark/South Suburban) corner kick, as Otoo found the top corner of the goal to give him is team-leading sixth score of the season.

In the 69th minute, Tom Hardy (Heddon-on-the-Wall, England/Newcastle Aviation) recorded the first of two goals for the senior, as he found the back of net from 20 yards out via a pass from Pedro Hernandez (Hammond, Ind./Hammond) to give the Peregrines (7-5-1) a 2-0 lead and give Hardy his first goal fo the season. Hardy struck again five minutes later in the 74th, making a sliding run off a Hernandez cross from the corner to make it 3-0.

Sophomore Cristian Garcia (Whiting, Ind./Clark) added one more goal in the 83rd, taking the pass from John Ernster (New Palestine, Ind./New Palestine/Spalding) and beating several Eagle defenders for his second score of the season.

Miguel David (Spring Valley, Calif./Bonita Vista) picked up his second straight shutout and third of the season for the Peregrines, as the freshman keeper came up with several strong saves, including one in a breakaway situation in the first half.

Purdue Calumet returns to action Wednesday, Oct. 22, when the Peregrines travel to Roosevelt University for an important Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup. The Peregrines, currently in a three-way tie for third in the CCAC (4-2-1) with Judson and St. Xavier, take on the undefeated Lakers (6-0) – winners of 11 straight -- beginning at 3 p.m. at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.
