Purdue Calumet Volleyball to Host CCAC Rival Purdue North Central Tuesday

PUC-PeregrinsThe Purdue University Calumet volleyball team will hope to even up this season series when league rival Purdue North Central comes to the Fitness and Recreation Center Tuesday for Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference matchup.

The Peregrines (6-14, 2-7 CCAC) will take on the Panthers (4-15, 2-7) of Westville, Ind., beginning at 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: Purdue Calumet is coming off a six-day layoff after sustaining a league loss on the road at St. Francis (IL) Oct. 7. Freshman Gabrielle Martin (Kankakee Valley, Ind./Kankakee Valley) leads the Peregrines with 2.79 kills per set, which ranks third in the CCAC. Classmate Carissa Jones (Whiting, Ind./Bishop Noll) adds 2.31 kills per set and junior setter Haley Smith (Bourbonnais, Ill./Bradley) has been solid with 8.04 assists per set, which stands as the seventh-best mark in the league.

SCOUTING PNC: The Panthers haven't played since Oct. 7 either, falling in a three-set sweep to the hands of league powerhouse Trinity Christian. Taylor Mullen leads PNC with 2.73 kills per set and Cami Webster adds 2.53 kills per set. Setter Abbe Mullen adds 5.44 assists per set.

SERIES HISTORY: PNC topped Purdue Calumet in the two teams' first matchup this season, winning 3-1 in Rolling Prairie, Ind. Jones had 11 kills and Martin and Akeelah Muhammad (Chicago Heights, Ill./Bloom Township/Kishwaukee) each had 10 kills in the setback. Since the Peregrines’ volleyball team was reinstated in 2010, PNC holds a 7-1 series lead. Last season, the Panthers edged Purdue Calumet in two five-set battles, winning 3-2. The Peregrines’ lone victory over PNC came in 2012 in a 3-2 win.
