From January 1 - 7 we highlighted the performance of four of our student-athletes and asked you to vote for a winner.
With 53.6 percent of the vote, you have named RedHawk women’s basketball newcomer Nicki Monahan as the Indiana University Northwest Rising RedHawk of the Month for December!
Nicki is a 5’9” freshman guard from Portage. Nicki is a Biology major and would like to pursue a career in Physical Therapy.
Nicki currently ranks second on the Redhawks in scoring (14.7), first in assists (2.5), third in rebounding (4.4) and first in three point field goals (27). She scored in double figures in all for RedHawks games in the month of December including 19 points at Marian on December 14 in helping to lead the RedHawks to a 3-1 record. A few days later, Nicki notched 15 points including three triples from long range in a 87-50 blow-out victory at Silverlake College.
The month of December included wins over then No. 18 National-Ranked Purdue Calumet and a top-30 win over IU South Bend. The RedHawks are currently receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 National Poll and sit atop the A.I.I. Conference standings with a 9-6 record.
This award is voted on by fans through an interactive web poll on the IU Northwest Athletics home page at www.iunredhawkathletics.com. Each month of the season, at least four student-athletes will be nominated for the title of Rising RedHawk as we continue to highlight the performances of our young men and women.
