Hebron’s Lauren Carlson Commits to IU Northwest RedHawks

iun-redhawks-logoHebron High School senior forward Lauren Carlson has announced her intention to continue her education and basketball career at Indiana University Northwest beginning in the Fall of 2014.

Carlson a 5-10 forward from Hebron, is currently leading her team with averages of 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds for the 4-6 Hawks, statistics that IU Northwest Head Coach Ryan Shelton believes she will improve upon at the college level.

Carlson is the second student-athlete in less than a week to commit to Shelton and the RedHawks as Hobart guard Grayce Roach committed to IU Northwest earlier in the week. "Lauren is very talented and is a high-upside player due to her strength and athleticism. She is a great student and teammate, her versatility to play both inside and on the perimeter will be a welcomed addition to our roster. Lauren's best basketball is ahead of her at the college level," said Shelton.

Carlson's team-high 11 points led the Hawks to a 41-38 victory over Boone Grove on November 23 to regain the PCC Kup from the Wolves. Hebron Girls Basketball Coach, Doug Godbolt calls Carlson, "a strong post-player and who is active on the boards and both ends of the floor."

An outstanding all-around athlete, Carlson was a four-year varsity basketball player for Hebron while earning three more letters in volleyball and another in track. She has also earned numerous academic and athletic awards while at Hebron.

Carlson was selected to the 2013 Indiana Junior North-South All-Star Game after leading the Hawks in both scoring and rebounding as a junior. She will join former Hebron teammate and RedHawks freshman guard Bre Lewin on next year's RedHawks squad.

Carlson intends to major in criminal justice and will wear #40 beginning for the RedHawks beginning next Fall.
