On Saturday the varsity softball team beat Munster 6-5. The team had a total of 11 hits. Kaitlin Doud went 3-4 with a double and 2 RBIs. Haley Hodges went 2-4 with a double and 1 RBI and Kiley Jones picked up another win to improve to 7-0. JV Softball vs. Munster won 2-0. Great job to all the JV girls on a winning season.
Claire Pardo went 2 for 3. Abby Alexander went 3 for 4. Janay McKnight and Megan Statler each added a hit and scored a run. Lauren Winicky had and RBI.
The varsity baseball team improved to 22-6, winning the Twin Lakes Invitational on Saturday. In game 1, the Indians beat Carrol 4-2. Zach Thorn and Chris Bruno each had 3 hits to pace the offense, while Kris Springman picked up the win.

A new, but familiar face will be at the helm when the Portage varsity football team takes the field next August. Wally McCormack has been named the new varsity head coach, replacing Jeromy Flowers, who resigned to take a job as an assistant at Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Illinois. McCormack has deep Portage roots, having lived in the city his whole life, played football for the Indians, graduated from PHS and started his coaching career at Fegely Middle School.
“I started coaching here, and I kind of always thought in the back of my mind that someday it would be cool to end up back here,” McCormack said.

The Indians pulled out the victory on Senior Night, beating Valpo 3-2. Kris Springman picked up his 5th win on the year, pitching 7 innings. Eric Mesarch opened the game with his 1st career varsity homerun and later added a double in the win. After a Zach Simmons double, Justin Newcomb laced a game tying single to plate Simmons. CJ Haupt had the game winning hit to score Newcomb from second. JV lost 10-0 to Valpo
Portage Girls Finished in Third place with 102 points - Individual Sectional Champions ( 1st place finishers) included-

For the week of May 15, 2012, the Portage High School baseball team fell from third to fourth overall in Northwest Indiana after being leapfrogged by the Crown Point Bulldogs in the Region Sports Networks’ weekly rankings of area baseball teams.
