sun-senseSun Sense: Risk Factor and Skin Cancer Prevention, was the title-topic of discussion at the June Franciscanfit Mallwalkers program at Southlake Mall in Hobart. Presenter Margaret Mudd, clinical manager of dermatology for Franciscan Medical Specialists, told attendees of skin cancer risk factors, how to make sense of sun protection products and methods to be proactive with skin cancer screenings. Blood pressure screenings also were available.

Franciscan Alliance Facility Earns American College of Radiology Accreditation

rot3Franciscan Healthcare Munster’s outpatient Imaging Department located at the Munster Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography (CT) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scans, sometimes called CAT scans, are a non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions.

Slam Dunk for Diabetes Basketball Camp Provides Lessons for on and off the Court

Cheeks Slam Dunk for Diabetes Basketball Camp at Franciscan Omni Health and Fitness-Schererville, provides instructions for proper layup techniques to some of the approximately 30 campers on hand this year. The free program, which ran June 23 to 25, is offered for children and young adults, aged 5 to 18, who have diabetes. Diabetes educators from Omni and from Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Michigan City, Franciscan St. Margaret Health-Hammond, Franciscan Medical Specialists and from other area hospitals, also were on hand to monitor participants’ blood sugar levels and provide other assistance.
