Bargain-Barn-Tanya-Makeover-1Fashion can be a daunting world for anyone but it can especially be difficult for those who have experienced a dramatic change in their body size. “I’m paranoid nothing will fit [when shopping for clothes],” stated local resident Tanya Dailey, “That’s how shopping used to be.”

After a 3 year weight loss journey, Tanya lost a total of 125 pounds. Coming from a weight that kept her off of roller coasters and gave her trouble fitting on planes, Dailey is physically like a new person and is eager to begin dressing to reflect the change. “When you take the mirror away, I’m the fat me again,” she shared, “I want to feel like I look in the mirror.”

Tanya was recently selected for a makeover from the Bargain Barn. “We want to celebrate all of Tanya’s hard work,” said Tevlyn Schwerd, Creative Director. Tanya has not only changed her physical appearance, but she has also created a new lifestyle for her family. “Now we are healthier, more active. We go to the beach, hiking, amusement parks,” smiled Dailey, “We played basketball on New Year’s Eve- I even outran both of my children.”

We want to see what we can do to let her be the rockstar she is,” Tevlyn stated, “She likes a variety of styles and with the weight loss, she finds herself mostly wearing her gym clothes.” Tevlyn decided to style Tanya in looser clothes, to reflect her active lifestyle, playing with color and texture to accentuate her hair. Tanya also has an edgy look, which Tevlyn emphasized, adding in classic elements.

Bargain-Barn-Tanya-Makeover-2Everyone has their own problem areas, so we worked with different proportions on Tanya,” Tevlyn went on to say. “We also put together some date night outfits!

The first outfit featured neutral colors to emphasize the edginess of the look. The vest, adding character to the ensemble, is from Sheryl Crow’s line for the Midwest, Boot Heel Trading Co. The white shirt is fitted at the top, flowing through the hips, keeping Tanya comfortable to move. The pants are fitted so they fit in the boots, keeping the look slim. A vintage style ring, a meaningful necklace, and black and white bag complete the look.

  • Vest- $12.99
  • Blouse- $12.99
  • Jeans with built-in spanx- $18.99, regularly $88
  • Bag- $9.99
  • Ring- $8
  • Necklace- $6

The second outfit was fashioned around the reversible double cotton top. The dual blend makes the top slinky but not overdone. Bargain-Barn-Tanya-Makeover-4The melon color plays up the reddish highlights in Tanya’s strawberry blonde hair. Jeans with the built-in spanx keep a slim line through the bottom half of Tanya’s body, accentuating curves. Accessories add a bit of fun to the outfit, with the leopard print wristlet.

  • Reversible top- $22.99
  • Jeans with built-in spanx- $18.99
  • Necklace- $6
