Fifty seven aspiring South Shore youth aged 10-18, were hard at work preparing for their major concert "Serenade with the Stars" at a recent Sunday afternoon rehearsal at Liberty Bible campus. One could follow the strains of some popular star studded music from "Star Wars" and "A Hard Days Night" throughout the classrooms while other groups were in tuned to more classical sounding compositions. This is the place where these talented youth gather each Sunday from as far as Gary, Hebron, Valparaiso, Michigan City and LaPorte to hone their musicianship with symphonic instruments. The group was begun by South Shore Orchestra seven years ago as an educational outreach to youth who did not have access to expanded musical programs within their educational environment. It offered two levels of participation--an intermediate group called Intermezzo and a more advanced group titled Venti. In 2009, the Petite Orchestra, a beginning level was added. Beginning this year, SSYO is moving towards a full symphonic sound by adding brass, percussion and woodwinds. You can finds more information about audition, tuition, and scholarships on their website at http://southshoreyouth.org.
