Christmas Celebration in Portage

toys-for-totsA celebration of Christmas begins in Portage on Saturday, December 3rd at Woodland Park. This event will benefit the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. Children will be able to enjoy FREE activities and inflatable, and FREE pictures with Santa. The only cost for the event is a new unwrapped toy or a cash donation that will benefit area children with toys for the holiday.

Thanks to local businesses purchasing placemat ads, the Kiwanis Club of Portage will be offering a FREE chili lunch during the event, including chili, beverage & dessert. Proceeds from the luncheon benefit area children & programs, including the dictionary project. The club has given every 3rd grade PTS student their own personalized dictionary for the past 5 years. This year they donated almost 600 dictionaries.

Psi Chapter of Tri Kappa Sorority to Host Annual House Walk

Tri-Kappa-Christmas-House-WalkThe women of the Zeta Psi chapter of Tri Kappa sorority will host its 15th annual Christmas House Walk from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 4, 2011. The homes this year are located in Crown Point's White Hawk subdivision.

Treats, sweets and gift baskets will be available for sale at one of the homes, also included in the sale are the chapter's famous cheese balls.

"This is our major fund raiser. With the funds, we give back to the community for charitable and culture needs," said Nicki Mackowski of Zeta Psi.

"A Night in Old Las Vegas" Gives United Way of LaPorte County Its Biggest Annual Event

“Elvis is in the Building!”

A Night in Old Las Vegas was held at the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City on November 11, 2011, where Elvis was the main attraction. The Rat Pack’s charming Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin were also in attendance, and you may have even spotted Marilyn Monroe. The night was full of everything that Old Las Vegas had to offer.

A Night in Old Las Vegas was held as the biggest fundraiser of the year for United Way of LaPorte County. Bill Hanna, Executive Director of LaPorte County United Way, said “This is our annual campaign in our efforts of continuing to raise money. Old Las Vegas Night is our biggest fund raising event of 2011 and our goal for this year is to raise $1,002,011.”

American Red Cross and Sunrise Kiwanis to Host 2011 "Festival of Trees" and "Choc-o-lots"

Festival of TreesMark your calendar for November 18, 2011! The Porter County Chapter of the American Red Cross and Valparaiso Sunrise Kiwanis will be hosting the "Festival of Trees" and "Choc-o-lots" again this year.

The Red Cross is looking for help to make this a successful event! We need your holiday trees, wreaths and table centerpieces decorated in the theme of your choice. These items will be auctioned off at the event on November 18 at the Old Town Banquet Center, 712 Calumet Avenue, Valparaiso, IN.

The event will begin with a chocolate tasting at 4:00 PM, followed by the auction of the beautifully decorated items at 8:00 PM. If you are not a crafter, gift cards can be donated to decorate a "gift certificate" tree which will also be sold that evening.

Holiday Festival Coming to Sunset Hill Farm County Park

Santa Claus waves to passersby. Carolers stand ready to sing. Ice skaters pose and reindeer prance. These are just some examples of the light displays that illuminate the park grounds and have become a tradition in Porter County.

Portage Township YMCA Hosting Lock-In

Calling ALL 5TH AND 6TH GRADERS! The Portage YMCA will be holding a Teen Lock-In; starting Friday November 18 at 10pm and ending at November 19 at 6am (Saturday morning) at the Portage YMCA.

YMCA membership is not needed. $13 at the door gets you 8 hours with your friends, 2 hours of dancing with a professional DJ, access to X-boxes with tons of games, 2 Wii’s with games like Just Dance 2 and Mario Kart, a movie, SURVIVOR GAME, and of course your full share of pizza for a late night snack as well as breakfast in the morning. The group will be tie dying t-shirts so please bring a shirt to dye.

Tell all of your friends to come join you. The price is $13 at the door or $12 with a canned food item. Drop off at 10pm and must be picked up by 6am. See you at the Portage YMCA on Friday November 18th at 10pm for the Lock-in. Lakeshore PAWS Pets Available for Adoption at Beyond Pink Fashion Show

Lakeshore-PawsDon't miss one of the hottest holiday parties this season and a chance to support a local animal rescue! On Thursday, November 10, 2011, Beyond Pink's holiday fashion show will feature the latest sparkly holiday wear and adorable adoptable animals rescued by Lakeshore PAWS.

The party begins at the Legacy Banquet Facility (1356 Lincolnway, Valparaiso, Ind.) with cocktails at 7 p.m., followed by a fashion show at 7:30 p.m. Attendees will enjoy appetizers, delicious desserts, a cash bar, great giveaways, and fabulous raffles. Lakeshore PAWS pets will also be available for adoption.
