Introducing Porter CEO
Jonathan Nalli

Jonathan Nalli's interest in health care administration began during high school in Lexington, Kentucky. That interest eventually led him from the "Blue Grass State" to Northwest Indiana.

"In high school I looked at the areas where I could have an impact on the community," says the 33-year old president and CEO of Porter Hospital in Valparaiso. "Then at the University of Kentucky, I learned the importance that a hospital can have in the community and in a patient's life."

Nalli earned a bachelor's degree in health science with a concentration in health administration, and then completed the MBA program at Drexel University in Philadelphia. He also served administrative internships at St. Claire Medical Center in Moorhead, Ky. and at Community Hospital in Cleveland, Tenn. This latter hospital is part of the Community Health Systems, the parent company that has owned Porter Hospital since April 2007.

That association with Community Health Systems led Nalli to administrative posts at various hospitals in Tennessee and Pennsylvania. The numerous moves provided windows of opportunity, Nalli says.

In May of 2007, Nalli relocated to Porter County where he became interim chief executive officer at Porter Hospital. On Oct. 1 of that year he was named full-time CEO.

Representing Porter Hospital in the surrounding communities is an important part of Nalli's administrative position.

Currently he is a board member of the Porter County Community Foundation which encourages philanthropic giving for the advancement and sustainability of the arts, human services, the environment, health care, recreational opportunities and the education of young people throughout Porter County.

Nalli also is the 2008 Medical Division Chairman of the United Way campaign in Porter County.

As new members of the Northwest Indiana community, Nalli says he and his wife, Cathleen, have felt welcomed from their first day.

"This is a strong community with strong familial presence and work ethic," Nalli says. "It's a great place to relocate, start a family and set down roots in the community." He also sees a bright future for Porter Hospital.

"This is a phenomenal opportunity to work with such great people," Nalli says. "It's an exciting time to be in hospital administration."

Growing to Serve You Even Better

Health care is what we do and at Porter we strive every day to do it better than anyone else.

Porter is constantly on the look-out for the next best practice, the next medical service we can offer to help you. It is the reason Porter dedicated itself to creating our Center for Heart Rhythm Disorders, which leads the region in treating heart rhythm problems and a heart failure telemanagement program that helps those with heart failure live longer and better - outside the walls of the hospital. It is the reason that we continue to evolve technologically -- with our wide-open MRI, our Pro-FX Surgical Table that makes minimally invasive hip replacement surgery possible, 64-slice CT technology and the da Vinci robotic surgical system.

Our goal is serve your health care needs.

Valparaiso Outpatient Campus

The Valparaiso Outpatient Campus offers outpatient laboratory, diagnostic imaging, cardiac rehabilitation and physician services from a central location just one mile from Porter. It is also the home of Chandana Surgery Center at Porter, a bustling center for outpatient surgery, including ear, nose and throat, gynecological, orthopedic, urologic and general surgery.

Porter's Diagnostic Imaging Department boasts the latest in imaging technology - MRI, 16-slice CT, digital mammography, ultrasound and DEXA scan bone densitometry.

COMPANY RECOGNITION

Thanks for the Great Care

I would like to thank all of the nurses and staff that took care of me on 3-West during my nine days in the hospital at Porter. I have had two surgeries at Loyola, three surgeries at Rush and was impressed with the care that I received in Valparaiso compared to the big dog university hospitals.

Shelley Pocnic, RN, is hands down the best nurse I ever had. I have never seen a nurse that young that has her head as straight as she does. When I was in major pain and the doctors could not control it, she was there in my room the whole time trying to help the situation. There were many others who were outstanding.

Amber, Neville, Stephanie, Angie, Scott and Gina just to name a few.

I own a company with 70 employees and would encourage any of them to use Porter.

To Jason and Nurses ICU 2-East

We wish to express thanks for the tireless care you gave Ken Unger in May.

Only because of you and all the nurses whose names I wish I knew, Ken has made a remarkable recovery. He is home, having lost 40 pounds but slowly getting around. He even went to church on Sunday!

You put up with our endless visits and answered our questions.

God Bless you!

Ken and Kay Unger

2-West

Thank you all for taking such good care of me! I do not mean to forget anyone, but some of the stars I remember are: Kathy Evans, Karen, Shelly, Jude, Evelyn and Tiffany! Thank you so much and 2009 is gonna be fine!

Cath Lab Nurses and Physicians

I can't remember a time when I was treated as a "patient". Your lab (everyone included) comforted us and made us feel welcome. Your operation is second to none. I just wish I could find the words to describe how you made us feel. Please keep up the good work.

Beatrice Mullins, 4-West

Nurses and aids were all extremely helpful and attentive. Attitudes were all very positive. Staff all worked together very well. No tension between them was ever displayed even in the worst of circumstances. I have been a patient since the 50's off and on and see much improvement in staff commitment.
