Porter County Parks Presents: 2014 Celebration of Wildlife

horse-This annual Celebration of Wildlife is a special event as the Porter County Wildlife Management Advisory Board and the Porter County Animal Shelter team up for a family event that highlights not only native and exotic wildlife, but adds a special day to showcase the efforts of the animal shelter.The event will take place Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., with hot air balloon rides being offered from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday.

Pond and Prairie Restoration Project Ground Breaking on June 5th

Sunset-Hill-FallThursday, June 5th at 9:30 a.m. a Ground Breaking Ceremony will be held at Sunset Hill Farm County Park for the Pond and Prairie Restoration Project. Park Staff, donors, partners and other key community members will be present to break ground on the project that will improve these key features of the park. The groundbreaking will be preceded by an address by Park Board President, Rich Hudson, and followed by refreshments and networking.

rot3Youth Track & Field-Registration Still Open!
Thursdays, 6/5-7/24, 5:30-7 p.m., Sunset Hill Farm, $45
Boys and Girls (ages 4-12) of all skill levels are welcome to join the Porter County Parks track team! Participants will have the opportunity to compete in 4 events (field and running) each meet! Children will run with youngsters their own age, with boys and girls in separate divisions, Porter County Parks will compete against the Valpo YMCA, Highland Parks Department, and the Valparaiso Parks Department. Meets are tentatively scheduled for the following Saturday mornings: June 28, July 12, 19 and 26.

Beginnings of Spring Celebrated at Sunset Hill County Park

spring-out-to-sunset-2014-1Picnics, kites, and even fairies filled Sunset Hill Park Saturday for Porter County Parks and Recreation’s annual Beginnings of Spring festival. Children took part in a scavenger hunt, flew kites, had their faces painted, bounced in an inflatable fun house, snacked on festival favorites like elephant ears, and flocked to the lovely Flanagin Fairies.
