Sunset Hill Farm County Park Celebrates 80 Years

Being a farm with tons of interesting history and stories to share, a day of celebration was the perfect way to commemorate its growth and development. With activities to watch and participate in all afternoon, guests had a chance to experience some old traditions and learn about history of the beloved farm in Valparaiso.

80th-Anniversary-PosterThis Saturday Porter County Parks and Recreation will be hosting a family reunion style festival to celebrate 80 Years of Sunset Hill Farm from 11am-3pm at Sunset Hill Farm County Park at 775 Meridian, Valparaiso. Sunset Hill’s history dates back to 1934 as a farm owned by Colonel Murray and his family. Later on, this property was donated and repurposed into the Sunset Hill Farm County Park that exists today, still keeping ties to its roots as a family farm through programming and partnerships.

The event will include a game between the Deep River Grinders and Sunset Hill Colonels at noon, the Mega 360 Obstacle Course by Bounce N Around, Laser Ball NWI, face painting, wagon rides, games, crafts and more. With food by Birky Farms and a beer garden featuring Triton Brewing. You don’t want to miss it!

Building a City's Identity: Portage Begins Construction on Long Awaited Splash Pad and Discovery Play Zone

splashpad-siteplanFounders Square Park in Portage is well on its way to providing area families a warm weather escape in its new Splash Pad and Discovery Play Zone. Construction on the Splash Pad area began almost two weeks ago, with Gariup Construction of Gary breaking ground at what will eventually be a summertime gathering place, complete with colorful fountains and refreshing water streams.
