Largest Northwest Indiana Orthopedic Specialists Group Aligns With Franciscan Health

Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute, the largest orthopedic group in Northwest Indiana, and Franciscan Alliance, parent organization of Franciscan Health, entered into professional services and co-management agreements effective Jan. 1.

Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute, which has been a major orthopedic presence in Porter County for 50 years, has expanded its service area to Lake and La Porte counties in recent years. It has offices in Chesterton, Portage, Valparaiso, Crown Point, Schererville, Knox, La Porte and Michigan City. The group includes 16 orthopedic surgeons, three pain management physicians, five podiatrists, a rheumatologist, a clinical psychologist and 16 advanced practice providers.

“We are excited about this new strategic partnership with Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute that will provide even greater access to high-quality orthopedic care to the many communities we are privileged to serve. Their reputation is second to none and we look forward to expanding our two organizations’ primary goal of providing the highest level of clinical outcomes for our patients,” said Kevin Leahy, Franciscan Alliance corporate president and CEO.

Leahy added that by aligning with the largest orthopedic group in Northwest Indiana as an adjunct to the Franciscan Physician Network consisting of over 275 physicians, Franciscan Alliance believes it is making significant progress in providing the highest-quality orthopedic care to its patients, without the need of leaving the area to Chicago-based hospitals. He said that the institute has been successful in recruiting and retaining highly trained, top-quality orthopedic surgeons and has garnered an excellent reputation in leading edge orthopedics.

Franciscan Health has five hospitals in Lake, Porter and La Porte counties that include Hammond, Munster, Dyer, Crown Point and Michigan City. Construction is under way for a new hospital in Michigan City scheduled to be completed in late 2018.

“For over six years, Lakeshore Bone and Joint Institute has enjoyed an excellent working relationship with Franciscan Health in Crown Point,” said Thomas Kay MD, its president.

“During that time, we have recognized that both of our organizations share similar values focused on quality patient care. We are excited to help increase the scope of orthopedic services in Michigan City. LBJI remains committed to serving patients in all the communities where we are present.”
