St. Catherine Hospital, of East Chicago, hosted its 22nd annual Wings of Healing Angel Illumination Ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 5, in the hospital chapel.
The Wings of Healing program, which was broadcast this year to patients and their visitors through closed-circuit TV, enables people to honor someone special during the holiday season by placing an angel on the Wings of Healing tree. There were 162 names read during a ceremony that included Christmas carols, music, camaraderie and a holiday social hour.
The monies collected for the Wings of Healing program through the sale of angel memorial cards and ornaments help provide scholarships to area students, “angels in training,” who are pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
“St. Catherine Hospital has always been a place of healing for mind, body and spirit,” Leo Correa, CEO, St. Catherine Hospital, said during opening remarks to more than 100 people attending the event. “Through these gifts of generosity and support, St. Catherine Hospital proudly continues its tradition of providing award winning care to our patients, honoring those within our community and nurturing students who are interested in a healthcare career.”
