If simple tasks are making you short of breath, or you’re more worn out than usual, it may be time to get checked for heart valve disease. Cardiologist Dr. Jay Shah will present “The Open & Shut Case of Heart Valve Disease” at 6 p.m., Feb. 7 in the Porter Regional Hospital Community Room, 85 E. U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso. Free blood pressure screenings will start at 5 p.m.

Those who have rapid heartbeat and fluttering in the chest may be experiencing symptoms of atrial fibrillation, or Afib – a common but dangerous heart rhythm disorder that could increase your risk of stroke five-fold. Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Dixon will present “Regaining Your Rhythm” at 6 p.m., Feb. 22 in the Porter Regional Hospital Community Room, 85 E. U.S. Highway 6, Valparaiso. Free blood pressure screenings start at 5 p.m.

Both programs are free, but require registration by visiting porterhealth.com or calling (800) 541-1861.
