Franciscan Alliance Celebrates 140-Year Anniversary of Treating First Patient

rot3Franciscan Alliance celebrates the anniversary of treating their first patient 140 years ago today. On January 3, 1876, just three weeks after arriving from Germany, the six Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration admitted and cared for an ill civilian at their newly secured building in Lafayette, Indiana. This historic date commemorates a crucial milestone in the founders’ mission to provide for the needs of the sick and disenfranchised.

Since that time, the Franciscan family has expanded to 14 hospitals, employing nearly 20,000 individuals who build on this mission and provide care for thousands of patients each day.

In celebrating, Franciscan Alliance thanks families throughout these served communities for continually entrusting them with the health and wellbeing of their loved ones.

With equal gratitude, Franciscan Alliance also recognizes the unwavering efforts put forth by all Franciscan employees — no matter their role, their actions strengthen the Franciscan legacy of compassionate care.
