Franciscan St. Anthony – Crown Point 2015 Feast Day Honors Saint, Clinic Staff, Volunteers and Supporters

Feast-Day-Honors-Saint-Clinic-Staff-Volunteers-and-SupportersSt. Clare Health Clinic in Crown Point observed the feast day of its namesake, St. Clare of Assisi, on Aug. 12 with a program that honored her, as well as present and past donors, volunteers and staff. Presiding at the celebration was Most Rev. Donald Hying, bishop of the Gary Catholic Diocese, who offered prayers, a history lesson about St. Clare, and tributes to late clinic volunteers, including James Moscato, Frederick Klepsch, MD; Angelo D’Ambrosio, Greg Bukowski and Connie Anderson; as well as Eleanor Leese, a revered late donor to the clinic, for whom a conference room will be named.

The bishop also saluted the clinic staff for its care for the less-fortunate. Shown to Hying’s left is Julie Mallers, clinic nurse-practitioner and manager; and to his right, Sister Marlene Shapley, Franciscan Alliance Northern Indiana vice president of mission services. Established in 1996, St. Clare, 1121 S. Indiana Ave., which is under the auspices of Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point, provides free primary health care and other services for area residents who fall within established income guidelines, are uninsured and are not eligible for government assistance.
