Porter Health System is pleased to announce that Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse Sarah Grcich, MSN, Ed, RN, BC, recently won an award for her display at the Nursing Management Congress 2011. Grcich’s poster abstract was entitled “Quality Improvement Intervention Results in 54% Reduction of Hospital-Acquired Pressure Ulcers” and was on display during the conference.
“Porter bought new pressure-reduction low-air loss mattresses for some of the units in 2009,” Grcich explained. “I developed a poster that detailed the outcome of the initiative. Basically, we saw a direct connection between the new mattresses and the reduction in bed sores (pressure ulcers).”
The Nursing Management Congress is a forum where nurses learn of alternatives and strategies for improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of nursing care.
