Porter Health System Goes Tobacco Free

Porter Health System announced that all of its facilities, including their grounds and parking lots, will become totally tobacco-free beginning June 1, 2010 PorterLogonew– which coincides with the World Health Organization’s “World No Tobacco Day” on May 31, 2010. The decision to eliminate tobacco use on all Porter campuses was recommended by a special Porter Tobacco-free Task Force and unanimously approved by the medical staff leadership and administration.

Since January, Porter has offered tobacco cessation classes to associates, their families and community members, as well as other resources to associates who wish to quit tobacco.

Although Porter has prohibited tobacco within its hospital and other healthcare facilities for many years, we now feel it is time to take the additional step and implement tobacco-free campuses to promote our healthy commitment to the community and further stress the health risks associated with tobacco,” said Jonathan Nalli, CEO, Porter Health System.
