Porter Regional Hospital Opens New Anticoagulation Clinic in the Center for Cardiovascular Medicine

Anticoagulation-Clinic-2013To better serve patients who take prescription blood thinner medications to prevent life-threatening blood clots, Porter Regional Hospital recently opened an Anticoagulation Clinic in the Center for Cardiovascular Medicine.

At the new Anticoagulation Clinic, our team works in collaboration with referring physicians to provide close monitoring of patients’ anticoagulation therapy,” said Porter’s Cardiovascular Service Line Director Terri Gingerich. “The new service offers patients many benefits including a safe, efficient and effective way to be monitored, as patients immediately receive results from their blood tests, and if needed, prescription adjustments from a pharmacist are made at that time of their visit.

Gingerich explains that during a patient’s visit, Porter’s pharmacists and nurses review patients’ prescription and over-the-counter medications for potentially harmful drug interactions; perform blood tests; communicate lab results; adjust medication dosages as needed; and provide patient education about blood thinners.
