ColonHappyFaceDuring Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, Porter Health Care System will present “Five Things You Need to Know About Your Colon” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 31 in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East U.S. Highway 6 in Valparaiso.

Learn about relief from cramps, bloating and other bellyaches as Gastroenterologist Dr. Stephen Paul discusses how to keep your colon healthy and reduce your risk of diseases such as colorectal cancer.

According to Dr. Paul, your colon — also known as your bowel or large intestine — is essential for digestion. When it’s not working right, the effects can be serious leading to a number of painful conditions. During the presentation, Dr. Paul will discuss the benefits of probiotics and fiber, as well as maladies like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, hemorrhoids and diverticulosis.
