They are shown being congratulated by Stephanos Rizos, MD, committee president; at a recent meeting of the group. Dobe is enrolled at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne and plans to follow in the footsteps of her mother, Denise, a nurse at Franciscan St. Anthony Health. Danielle hopes to become a pediatric nurse. “I enjoy taking care of people and work in child care at the Southlake YMCA in Crown Point. I love being around children,” she said. Ryken is a student at Purdue University in West Lafayette and like her mother, Patti, also plans a nursing career. Patti likewise is employed at Franciscan St. Anthony Health. “I always have enjoyed helping people and feel useful interacting with people,” Tana said. Scholarship applicants provide their grade point averages, Standardized Achievement Test scores, a listing of extracurricular activities, and work history to the committee and answer a series of questions concerning their career paths. They also are asked to list events in their lives that have shaped their decisions and why they deserve the scholarship.
