Porter Regional Hospital Hosts Potluck for Senior Circle Members

SC-Potluck-1A crowd of Porter Health Care System Senior Circle members recently braved frigid weather conditions to ring in the New Year at a special potluck dinner. Senior Circle is a program that encourages adults age 50 and over to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle through education, wellness and social activities. During this event, members put on their festive sweaters and gathered in the cafeteria at Porter Regional Hospital for an afternoon of camaraderie and fun.

“The potluck, held each year after the official New Year, provides members the opportunity to come together and socialize,” said Senior Circle and Community Programming Coordinator Bonny Hildebrand. “Other Senior Circle events are more formal, usually featuring a presentation or educational purpose, coordinated entirely by Porter. The potluck is a purely social event, run by the members.”

Each attendee brought a side dish or dessert to enjoy with the main course provided by Porter’s Food and Nutrition Services Department. Members also participated in a round of Christmas-themed brain puzzles, with prizes awarded to the top three winners each round.

“This is the second year I’ve attended the potluck and I look forward to it every time,” said Senior Circle member Carol Dowd. “Seniors know how to have fun.”

Fellow member Nancy Lakin echoed her thoughts. “The friendship created through the program is wonderful. We are traveling with the group in April and at this potluck, we have been fortunate to connect with others going on the trip. It’s wonderful to get to know them before our adventure in the spring.”

The annual celebration is one of many events offered through the Senior Circle program at Porter. Other events include monthly breakfast presentations, community wellness presentations, nature outings, a monthly movie, and travel opportunities.
