Porter Regional Hospital’s Center for Women’s Health Named Center of Excellence

BC-Excellence-2014The designation of Breast Imaging Center of Excellence recognizes that the Center for Women’s Health has earned accreditation in the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs including stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound, as well as the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.

The center underwent vigorous peer-review evaluations to receive the status, conducted by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in each breast imaging modality. The evaluations determined the Center for Women’s Health has achieved nationally accepted practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs, and meets the highest level of imaging quality and radiation safety.

“As a physician, I want to treat every patient like I do my own family,” said Divyesh Patel, M.D., radiologist at the Center for Women’s Health. “To know this facility has been deemed by the ACR to be one of the top facilities is important because I know my patients will receive quality care administered by the best trained technicians and the best equipment – all accredited by the ACR.”

“Patients can rest assured they are receiving care from a team that is not only well-trained, but will be with them every step of the way,” said Nancy Babich, director of Diagnostic Imaging at Porter. “When you receive an abnormal diagnosis, you need someone to help guide you through; that’s what we are here for. The imaging is just a part of the process; we are a patient’s advocate, their support to the next level of care, guiding them to resources they need, such as cancer support groups, and providing recommendations for oncologists and surgeons.”

The ACRis a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic and interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicist with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
