Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point EMS Academy Graduates Seven Students

Franciscan-2012-EMS-GraduatesSeven students recently became the latest graduates of the Franciscan St. Anthony Health-Crown Point Emergency Medical Services Academy paramedic program.

They are:

  • Natalie Ferrantella, Dan Michels and Eric Newell, Schererville Fire Department.
  • Jamie Giffin and Yasmine Garcia, Prompt Ambulance.
  • Terry Morgan, Valparaiso Fire Department.
  • Danny Misiak, Hammond Fire Department.

Morgan became the first recipient of the Don Hess Award, which recognizes the student who achieves the highest grade point average in the course, as well as outstanding evaluations from field and clinical rotations. Morgan achieved a 99 percent score on his final exam and a 94 percent score for the class.

The award is named for Hess, longtime academy director, who died in 2011, and was the mentor of his successor, Rob Dowling.

Dowling said the award was an appropriate way to honor Hess’s legacy, “by honoring the traits Don would consider to be beneficial in being successful as a paramedic.”

Those traits include displaying exceptional knowledge in the classroom setting, the ability to use that knowledge in the field and in a clinical setting, and the willingness to pay that knowledge forward to others.

The award was presented by Lenore Hess, Hess’s widow, who encouraged the graduates to continue his legacy.

Applications are available until the end of July for the next paramedic course, which begins in September. For more information, visit: http://stanthonymedicalcenter.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=74
