Porter Health System Celebrates National Donate Life Month this April

Donate-LifeIn observance of National Donate Life Month this April, Porter Health System will conduct a flag-raising ceremony on the front lawn of its Valparaiso Hospital Campus at 3 pm, Thursday, April 12. During the ceremony, Porter’s CEO Jonathan Nalli will read the Donate Life Proclamation and encourage everyone to act now to become an organ, eye or tissue donor to provide hope today for those in need.

More people than ever are awaiting a life-saving organ," said Nurse Educator, Bonnie Turman, RN. “Porter follows a collaborative model to institute best practices for donation and transplantation, so we can help more people and families in need.”

According to Donate Life America, there are more than 113,000 Americans and more than 1,400 Hoosiers who are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. The month long celebration honors the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and their families and commemorates all transplant recipients in the United States. Additionally, activities this month will focus on supporting Donate Life America’s new campaign, 20 Million in 2012, which looks to add 20 million new organ, eye, and tissue donors to state donor registries in 2012.
