10 Fun Things to Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana June 2 – 4, 2017

How do you celebrate summer in Northwest Indiana? With some tunes of course! Enjoy a weekend of concert hopping, from the Zao Island’s live summer concert kick off performances, to the huge and always fun 7th annual Jammin’ With Save the Dunes! The Lubeznik Center are showcasing the annual LOK Young Artists Expo for their First Friday event and the Portage Township Live Entertainment have a fun-loving singing pair to enjoy. Once again, there is something for all ages and walks of life, whether your hobby is biking or fishing! Clap your hands folks, it is summer time in the Region!

Lubeznik Center of the Arts First Friday
LOK Young Artists Expo : Lubeznik Center for the Arts will host the fourth annual LOK Young Artists' Expo in partnership with the Lindsey O'Brien Kesling (LOK) Wishing Tree Foundation. The evening is a showcase of talented youth in the region, which includes LCA's youth programming. An exhibition of artwork - created by regional students including LCA's Youth Arts Council and the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington - will be on display in the NIPSCO Education Studios through July 14.

Zao Island Kicks off Summer Concert Series
Friday night, head to Zao Island for the Summer Concert series, starting off with Soul Shine at 7 p.m. Then, on Saturday night, join in for the Planetary Blues Concert!

Valpo Parks' Bikin and Eggs Family Bike Ride
Enjoy an out and back, at your own pace, 3-mile bike ride on Valpo Pathways! Once the ride is done, stick around for fun and food as breakfast will be served with a bike rodeo, inflatables, face painting and more! Registered participants receive breakfast and t-shirt. Tickets are $12/per person and riders under age 3 are free!

Kids Fishing Day
Register now to enjoy the day fishing with your young ones! This fishing day is for Whiting and Hammond residents only, and you can sign up at the Whiting-Robertsdale Chamber of Commerce. Fishing poles and bait will be provided, but participants are welcome to bring their own!

Relay for Life of Greater Valparaiso
Relay For Life is the signature fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. Join us at the Relay For Life of Greater Valparaiso to remember loved ones lost, honor survivors of all cancers, and raise money to help the American Cancer Society make a global impact on cancer! Funds raised help the American Cancer Society provide free information and support for people facing the disease today, and fund cancer research that will help protect future generations.

Highland Downtown Car Cruise
Head to downtown Highland this Saturday afternoon from 1 to 5 p.m., for Highland's 4th Annual Car Cruise! Cars will be lined up along Highway Avenue between Kennedy Avenue and Fifth Street, which will be closed during the event. Arrive early and park at Main Square Parking Lot to check out the cars. This event is free to everyone!

Portage Safety Day
The City of Portage Fire Department will be hold a Safety Day on June 3rd from 2-4pm at Willowcreek Middle School Parking Lot. This event is to promote general safety and bicycle safety. This event will distribute bicycle helmets while supplies last, coupons to Jimmy Johns, and Rusty the Railcat and the Portage Police K-9 will be there!

7th Annual Jammin’ With Save the Dunes
It’s here! The biggest fundraiser put on by Save the Dunes is back for another year of fun, food, and family-friendly activities. The headliner band this year is the Freddy Jones Band! Plus, School of Rock Oak Park and the Corey Dennison Blues Band will take the stage again. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door on Saturday. This is fun event for the family and a great way to support the worthy efforts of Save the Dunes!

Portage Township YMCA Movies on the Lawn: Trolls
The Portage YMCA is hosting a FREE family-friendly movie night on their front lawn the 1st Saturday of every month (June-September). The YMCA will be showing Trolls this Saturday night on an inflatable projection screen. This event is free and open to anyone. Concessions will be available for purchase. The movie will begin at dusk (approximately 7:30pm)

Portage Township Live Entertainment Presents: The Jon and Megan Experience 
Jon and Megan are a musical duo from Northwest Indiana. Jon is well known in the area for his dynamic acoustical/electrical guitar playing and looping. While Jon and Megan both sing lead, it is their voices combined in harmony that truly makes them shine. With their wide selection of popular songs from then until now, it's always a good time-dancing and singing along is highly encouraged by this fun-loving pair!
