10 Fun Things to Do This Weekend in Northwest Indiana April 21 – 23, 2017

Saturday is Earth Day, and in Northwest Indiana, we take any opportunity to get outside. So, if that means volunteering at a local clean-up event or walking the plank in Whiting, enjoy a great weekend outside. Get your kids ready for summer with a closet sale, stocked with great new outfits and toys, and then head over to the Portage YMCA where you can learn some tips on how to keep your kids healthy and entertained while out of school. When night creeps in, stop in for a quiet evening at the theater or watch a loud, crazy wrestling match go on in Hammond. It is another weekend packed with fun for all out here in Northwest Indiana.

Chicago Street Theater Presents:
The Rose Tattoo a classic drama directed by Tennessee Williams, will be showing at the Chicago Street Theater for one more weekend. One of the author’s most beautiful and powerful plays, The Rose Tattoo is the story of a love stronger than death.

Valpo Parks Kids Closet Sale
With more than 30 vendors setting up tables with clothes, toys, furniture and more, there is no chance you can walk away from the closet sale. Hosted by the Valpo Parks at the Butterfield Family Pavilion, this is a great way to get some new summer things at a low cost.

Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration
Porter County Recycling and Waste Reduction invites residents from lake, Porter, and La Porte Counties and beyond to connect with the environment through exhibits, entertainment, reuse and activities featured at the Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration on Saturday, April 22.

Mother’s Day Madness – Spring Jewelry and Craft Show
Just in time for Mother’s Day! Head to the Woodland Park Community Center for one-stop shopping! The event will have jewelry, custom gifts, and so much more! Come shop for the special mom in your life! Admission is free, but please bring an item for the Portage Food Pantry.

Community Clean-Up Day at Festival Park/Lakefront
The Hobart Parks Department is asking the community to come together for an Earth Day clean-up! That Saturday We are asking for volunteers to help pick up any garbage, weeds, and mulch the playgrounds. Areas of cleanup will extend to Lakefront, Rugby, City Ball Park and if there are enough people we will do Pavese Park, McAfee, Robinson, & Arbor Lane as well.

History Hike to Explore the Streets of Michigan City
The public is invited to usher in springtime with a historically-themed walking tour of downtown Michigan City. Along the way, sites including the historic Haskell and Barker Car Company workers’ cottages, the location of the first log cabin in Michigan City, and the site of the original Barker house will be pointed out, along with trails used by Native Americans and fur traders prior to the city’s 1836 founding.

Whiting’s Party Like a Pirate Day
Come out to Whiting to experience a full day of pirate fun. For the wee lads and lasses during the day, a pirate ship will be open to fire the cannons and meet the pirates! Travel along 119th Street to play the scavenger hunt or dress like a pirate for the costume contest. Then, Party like a Pirate at night with drink and food specials, live music, prizes and more!

Portage Township YMCA Healthy Kids Day
Summeris just around the corner and with it children’s break from the routine of getting up and moving. Because kids are physically less active, due to video games and television during the summer, the Portage YMCA is offering their own Healthy Kids Day, a national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids and families.

Zoobilee 2017 Flight Night
The 2017 Flight Night is a 21 and over event set for take off on Saturday at the Michigan City Airport. With a special performance by the Indiana Ballet Theatre, the event’s proceeds will go toward the Washington Park Zoo. Food, drink, games and music will make this night one to remember.

WWE Returns to Hammond
Wrestlers return for the Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship on Sunday. Participants include Randy Orton Vs. AJ Styles Vs. Bray Wyatt, Dean Ambrose Vs. Baron Corbin for the Intercontinental Championship Match and many more.
