Each weekend we bring you 10 Fun Things to Do in Northwest Indiana so you are never without something to do! This week has a few Oktoberfests in the region, Greek Fest, a bicycling event, fire department open houses and more!

Oktoberfest in Valpo Features Local Craft Beers, German Dinner, Gnome Zone for Kids, Pumpkin Patch and More! 
You don’t have to travel to German to enjoy the spirit of their annual fall celebration. For the second year, Saint Paul Catholic School will host Oktoberfest on Friday, October 3 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at 1755 West Harrison Boulevard in Valparaiso. The evening provides an affordable fun-filled night for all ages!

Join the Porter County Expo Center for St. Iakovos Greek Church 2014 Greek Fest! 
Hours are 4:00 to 11:00 PM on Friday, October 3rd; 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM on Saturday, October 4th; and Noon until 6:00 PM on Sunday, October 5th. Friday night the band "Pawnz" will play American & Greek music. Saturday night the band "Together" will keep you dancing with Pop, Rhythm and Blues, and Big Band Sound. Sunday there will be Greek music and 2 performances of Chicago Dance Troupe "The Neolea Hellenic Dancers"!

Horror Art, Pumpkin Decorating, Upcycled Art & Home Decor, and Jazz headline October First Friday in Downtown Michigan City 
The Michigan City Mainstreet Association is pleased to present the First Friday Artwalk in the Uptown Arts District on October 3, 2014 from 5-8 p.m. The Uptown Arts District is comprised of fine art galleries, retail establishments and restaurants located in the area from 11th Street to the lake and Spring Street to Wabash Street in Michigan City, IN.

Bike Event Planned at IU Northwest for October 4 
Indiana University Northwest invites cycling enthusiasts to participate in SlowRoll@IUN, a cycling event organized by the Department of Communication’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) on Saturday, Oct. 4. Bicyclists will roll through the community beginning at 8:30 a.m. from IU Northwest’s parking lot, located at the corner of 33rd Street and Broadway Avenue on the northeast end of the campus.

Portage Fire Prevention Open House set for Saturday, October 4 
The Portage Fire Department will host a fire prevention open house on Saturday October 4th from 9am to noon. Come join us for this fun and informative event! There will be great demonstrations from K-9 Units and water rescue, refreshments, the firefighters will be available for a meet and greet, and more!

La Porte Fire Department Annual Open House Set for October 4th 
The La Porte Fire Department will be hosting their annual open house on Saturday October 4, 2014 from 10:00-2:30 at Fire Station 1 at 809 W. 18th St. Fun for the whole family will include station tours, an extrication demonstration, EDITH house programs, a La Porte County EMS ambulance and a complimentary lunch. We will also have our highly desirable Breast Cancer Awareness shirts (pink or black) available for $15. We are excited to announce the return of the Lindsey O'Brien Kesling Wishing Tree Foundation.

Food Bank’s Annual Walk for Hunger Will Be October 4
The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana will host their 12th annual Hope’s Harvest Walk/Run for the Hungry at the Gary/Chicago International Airport on October 4th. The event will take place from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and all proceeds will go to partnering food pantries and soup kitchens. Past walks have raised upward of $80,000. Entrants can register as a team or individual by going online to www.nwifoodbank5k.org. Registration is $25/person and includes breakfast, lunch, a t-shirt and goodie bag. Race begins at 9:15am for runners and 9:20am for walkers.

Imagine Music Series Brings Sena Ehrhardt to Memorial Opera House on October 4 
Imagine Music Productions will present Sena Ehrhardt as the next artist to perform in the Imagine Music Concert Series at the Memorial Opera House on October 4, 2014. Sena was nominated for Best New Blues Artist in 2012 at the American Blues Awards. Sena Ehrhardt’s second Blind Pig release is a combination of soulful, roots-orientated musician that incorporates blues-rock, reggae, soul-blues, and funk.

Albert’s Jewelers to host 11th Annual Auction for MS 
Albert’s Diamond Jewelers will be hosting their 11th Annual MS Auction at the Indiana Welcome Center on Sunday, Oct. 5. Beginning at noon, attendees will be able to preview more than 100 baskets as well as hundreds of items available for auction. Items include jewelry, sports tickets, memorabilia, fine wines and fine art, as well as spa and golf packages. Item auctions begin at 1 p.m.

Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's in Michigan City 
The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting Northwest Indiana residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®. The Michigan City Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place on Sunday, Oct. 5, at Washington Park, located at Six on the Lake. Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It is an experience for more than a 1,000 participants in Northwest Indiana who will learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services. In addition to the Walk, participants will enjoy a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer’s.
