It's a Sweet Sight to See: The Portage Parks Daddy Daughter Dance

The annual Portage Parks Daddy Daughter Dance has come to mean quality family time for many people, and this year was no different. Over 300 pairs of dapper dads and their darling daughters showed up to celebrate their special bond. The event was held at Woodland Park in Portage and the Portage Parks Department devoted their time and attention to detail to make the night extra special. There was red garland, candle-lit tables, and of course, plenty of music.

Portage Township YMCA Bowl-A-Thon is a Wacky and Wonderful Time

Bowling, dancing, and laughter were abundant throughout the 26th Annual Portage Township YMCA Bowl-A-Thon this past Sunday. Held at Camelot Bowl in Portage, this annual event raises funds to help subsidize YMCA programs and provide scholarships to individuals and families who are unable to afford YMCA services.

Rittenhouse Gets Artsy with Coffee and Canvas

Rittenhouse Senior Living in Portage recently hosted a Coffee and Canvas session in which residents got to paint their very own seasonal artwork. Kathy Eckert is the owner of Canvas Escapes which works with clients to customize a painting party. Kathy herself designs all of the paintings and leads both public and private painting sessions. Eckert started the business in April 2013 and does a variety of events including fundraisers and children’s parties. "I’ve created my own job, and I love it,” Eckert said. “The best past is when everyone is done [the paintings] are all different, yet the same.”

Portage High School Hosts Another Great Variety Show

On Friday, March 13, 2015 the annual Variety Show at Portage High School took place. “The Variety Show is put on every year to showcase the talents that you don’t see every day from people that you might not expect those talents from,” junior variety show participant, Claire Hagan said. Hagan has been a PHS thespian since her freshman year and has participated in the show since then. Portage High School senior, Cody Highlan participated in the show for the first time as a part of the Bitchin’ Ballerinas which is a ballet dance that consists of the Outstanding Young Man program participants.
