IU Northwest’s Mark Baer to draw on recent stage combat training

rot4Theatre Northwest, the performance company of the Indiana University Northwest Department of Performing Arts, is proud to announce its fall production, “Dracula,” a play by Steven Dietz.

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Oct. 30 and 31 and Nov. 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8 and 9 at Theatre Northwest on Grant, 3660 Grant St., located one mile west of the main campus at 37th Avenue and Grant Street.

The cast and crew are made up entirely of IU Northwest students of a variety of majors and backgrounds.

Based on the 1897 novel by Bram Stoker, “Dracula” tells the story of a legendary vampire’s attempt to bring his evil hunger for blood to the bustling city of London. Count Dracula’s powers of seduction seem irresistible until he turns his gaze on the lovely Mina. This production will contain violence, blood and strong sexuality.

In addition to directing, Baer is designing and choreographing the violence for this production. The show will feature a hearty amount of blood, fangs, and hand-to-hand combat, as well as some sleight of hand and sound effects designed to keep the audience on edge. Baer will draw on his recent training with the Society of American Fight Directors to help make the production a success.
