History

The grand splendor of this 1893 vaudeville playhouse hosts memories from famed performers such as John Philip Sousa, the Marx Brothers, Valparaiso native and actress Beulah Bondi, campaign speeches by President Calvin Coolidge, Teddy Roosevelt and many others.

Built in 1893 by the Grand Army of the Republic, the Memorial Opera House was erected as a living memorial to Civil War veterans. Today, this historic landmark continues its legacy and produces many of Northwest Indiana's award winning theatre productions. Voted in 2008 as the Best Performing Arts Center and Cultural Attraction of the Year!

Historical Theatre Tours

Experience an unforgettable look into the inner-workings of the historic Memorial Opera House! Guided walking tours are available during certain days of the week and typically taken upon request at $5 Adults and $3 Students.

Learn the fascinating Opera House history while experiencing first-hand, the vintage decor replicated during the most recent multi-million dollar renovation. Tour behind-the-scene areas of the theatre such as the backstage, costume and scene shops and the dressing/makeup rooms! Tours are designed for all ages and dependant upon current production scheduling.
