Porter Regional Hospital Hosts 2018 Breakfast with the Easter Bunny

Saturday morning, Porter Regional Hospital hosted the largest Easter Egg Hunt in the county at the Porter County Expo Center for the fifth year in a row! The co-sponsors of the event were Porter County EMS and inHealth Integrated care.

The day began with the Easter Bunny's grand entrance, emerging from a helicopter just after landing. Hundreds of little kids were surprised and eager to meet the famous “cottontail."

After the Easter Bunny safely landed, children got on their marks to begin the much anticipated egg hunt. Inside the expo center, families listened to German folk music while enjoying plenty of food. Besides the wonderful family atmosphere, the best part of the day for families was the opportunity to make donations to the Salvation Army.

The money raised that Saturday morning would not have been possible without the help of a wonderful community. The CEO of Porter Health Care System, Sean Dardeau, explained the important role played by the community in the production of this huge event.

“The Porter County Easter Egg Hunt is an all-volunteer event, with sponsors providing products to help make the event happen,” Dardeau said. “All of the proceeds go to the Salvation Army. Hopefully the Salvation Army will continue to do their good work through the proceeds raised from this event.”

The holidays can bring unique challenges to some families, but with the work done by the Salvation Army many people will be able to enjoy Easter without worries. The Director of Porter County EMS, Ann Brandl, stressed how the money donated would be staying within the community.

“What is really nice about this event is that the money raised by our community and our local sponsors goes directly to the Salvation Army in Porter County,” Brandl explained. “These local dollars stay local.”

By donating money at the event, families could inspire positive changes within their community. The CEO of inHealth Ambulance Services, Ron Donahue, described how and why he came up with the idea for this event.

“There really was not anything like this locally, which is what spurred my mind to do something like this for the holidays,” Donahue emphasized. “I saw that there was a need for it in the area.”

There is so much good that can still be done around the world and the best place to begin is within your own community. In order for a difference to be made, it does not have to begin miles away. The donations made from the Porter County Easter Egg Hunt will certainly make a difference for many families and people in need.
